Personal notes
1) when sending an e-mail, keep the subject professional. Do not randomly entitle it "your timing belt's done shrunk one size too small."

2) suppress the sarcasm. If it's regarding an issue such as Ops being unable to find a problem after three days of investigation, including the line "It only took me 10 seconds to find the issue" is not appropriate.

3) Don't be chatty. Including repro steps of "I used dsrdc03 (a personal favorite of mine, the many releases we've spent together)" and "without going through BladeLogic (because, frankly, I couldn't remember my password if my life depended on it)" ... not professional.

4) Do not include the exclamation "build a church and call me 'Jesus.'"

5) remember that the e-mail you send can very, very easily be forwarded on to, say, the person whose incompetence and inaction warranted the sarcasm in the first place.

My thanks to John Edwards
He's gone and reinforced my belief that two rules apply to Presidential elections:

The Republicans will put up the most mediocre candidate they can find
The Democrats will put up a stellar candidate and then race en masse to see how they can lose to the Republicans' mediocre candidate.

In this case, one of the people whispered to be a front-runner for VP having an affair and love child? Stellar.

On the other hand, I do admire Obama for staying out of the public eye in any significant way 'til after the convention. It's really the only sane move at this point.

In other news - why the fuck did both candidates make appearances on Last Comic Standing? If you're trying to convey gravitas and statesmanship, appearing on the lowest-ranked network's comedy competition isn't it. Just sayin'.

Ouch.
So, the in-laws returned today. I forgot about the Wilburton tunnel construction, and picked them up late ... thus setting the tone for the rest of the day.

Went to Redhook for lunch.

Hung out at the house, rest of the day. Ken (father-in-law) fell asleep; Lorian and Kris (mother-in-law) watched equestrian events record on tivo. Having testicles, I fell asleep rather than watch a horse event.

Went to Palisade for dinner. Noisy. Great food, as always. Accidentally got lost on the way - instead of taking normal exit, accidentally went to auto-pilot and found myself halfway to former acquaintance's house. Had to backtrack.

As said, food good. Ordered 40-year-old Taylor Fladgate. oh my FUCKING GOD this is excellent port. Good enough I want to round up my male friends, drink Taylor Fladgate, and smoke cigars. ordered just the 40-year-old Taylor Fladgate, the waiter accidentally placed the wrong order. Got the Century of Port - instead of four ounces of 40-year-old TF, I got 1 oz of 10-year, 1 oz of 20-year, 1 oz of 30-year, and 1 oz of 40-year. Very nice. Especially when the waiter came and apologized for getting the order wrong, and poured another 3 oz of 40-year TF for me.

Drove home while L took in-laws/parents to the airport. Best visit ever.

Oh, life is precious
The day I decide to take a personal day off work, and the power's out ... for the past four hours.

Temporary interruption my ass.
